11th Dec 2012 - Party Ingredients Advent Calendar: London Must-Dos This Christmas
11 Dec 2012 | Paul Wells
Every year, Christmas brings with it annual festive traditions, fairs and events, but some London must-dos also include one-offs that are worth experiencing whilst you can. All of them are free of admission, so no excuses accepted.
If you haven’t yet visited the annual Hyde Park Christmas Extravaganza, do it now. The evenings are dark but here mulled hot drinks are flowing, lights and music are dazzling and the whole Hyde Park is alive with Christmas fun and games for the whole family.
Christmas lights at Oxford and Regent Streets
We are still not entirely sure why Marmite decided to sponsor and theme the famous Oxford Street Christmas lights this year, but they are fun, interactive and a must-see. Brave the crowds to decide whether you love them or hate them. For the best viewing experience, take a bus through Oxford Street and aim for the upstairs front seats.
Regent Street went for a beautiful 12 Days of Christmas theme – definitely safer than Marmite – and the West End luxury shopping street is also worth a visit. Stroll down the street from Oxford Circus and gaze up to get the most of the Regent Street lights.
The Rain Room
A one-off in London is the Rain Room by Random International, located at the Barbican Centre. Although it’s not necessarily festive, it is definitely a London must-do this season, so do it whilst you still can! This unique experience lets you walk (or dance/sing/stand...) in the rain without getting wet. Sounds impossible, but it's made possible by thousands of little receptors follow your every move whilst in the room. Although it is raining everywhere around you, the rain drops are not falling where you stand. Fascinating.
