How to make delicious savoury scones
24 Apr 2014 |
Yesterday was St. George's Day, which got us feeling all patriotic and inevitably left us craving scones! They are a delicious snack sweet or savoury but we thought we would share an easy-to-make recipe a little less traditional, but equally as scrumptious!
Anchovy and Onion Scones
You will Need:
1 Small Onion, finely chopped
A little margarine for cooking
225g / 8oz Plain Flour
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
25g / 1oz Butter
6 Anchovy fillets, finely chopped (optional)
150ml / 1/2 pint Milk
1tsp Cream of Tartar
Set the overn to 200C / 400F / gas 6
Fry the onion in the margarine until soft, then leave on the side to cool. Mix the flour, salt, bicarbonate of soda and butter together in a bowl, then mix in the cold onion and the anchovy. Mix the milk and cream of tartar together, add this to the other ingredients and knead together.
Turn the dough on to a floured surface and pat it down flat, to a thickness of about 2.5cm/1 Inch. Using a 5cm/2 Inch pastry cutter, cut out round, then knead the remainder together and cut out again. Place the rounds on an oiled baking sheet and back for 15 minutes.
