WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THE MARKET IN June?

Summer is almost here – we can smell it, feel it! It is bringing an array of mouth-watering and colourful food to choose from. British seasonal food is delicious in June, and buying in season tends to represent the best value.

Exciting times ahead of us, especially food wise. The seasonal line-up is dazzling: fresh broad beans and peas, succulent gooseberries, deliciously sweet strawberries and blueberries. Courgettes, spinach and cucumbers are coming into season and can perfectly complement the season’s best fish and meat. Sunday BBQ is calling - marinate a few pieces of corn-fed chicken with fresh courgettes from your garden and serve it with a big bowl of spinach and wild garlic. Dessert should be simple and refreshing, like strawberry and elderflower fool – a different take on classic ‘strawberries and cream’.
