Musicians, Models, Celebrities and Vodka at a Russian Gala at Skinners' Hall

London recently celebrated Maslenitsa, the week-long Russian Sun Festival at the beginning of spring (11th – 17th March), with events throughout the city, coming to a climax on Saturday in Trafalgar Square with a celebration of Russian theatre, dance and folk / jazz / pop music, Russian dishes (think stroganoff, borscht and blini) and a huge bazaar of crafts.

On Friday 15th March, the British-Russian Gala came to Skinners’ Hall for Maslenitsa. Attended by high profile businessmen, fashion designers, filmmakers, artists, models and so forth, this exclusive event was a brilliant opportunity to mingle with Russian, British and international celebrities. The super-glam dresses, flowing vodka and variety of nationalities made this evening very interesting. Guests weren't ready for their main course until 10pm! That's how much fun they were having at the reception!

Skinners' Hall, the most photogenic venue in London, had four film crews interviewing and capturing every second of glamour. We're yet to see footage of our three-course meal service at the round tables but we'll upload some as soon as we get it - it'll be amusing to watch our staff being dwarfed by the very tall supermodels who performed a seductive fashion show between the tables.

Other entertainment was provided by the likes of the Udmurtian folk group Buranovskiye Babushki, stars of the Eurovision competition in 2012, plus a band that included a huge guitar called a balalaika.

We wonder if guests knew that the handicraft bazaar in the Outer Hall was underneath the Russian glass chandelier gifted by Empress Catherine the Great!
