Cocktails are often associated with hot summer’s days, but with the snow decorating the trees and rooftops outside, why not look into creating winter versions of classic cocktails and invite the friends over to sample. With a little gingery twist, Brazilian national cocktail Caipirinha turns into a February favourite and the classic Manhattan gets a winter treatment.
2 dashes orange bitters
15ml Sourz Apple
15ml Sweet Vermouth
Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass, fill with ice and stir briskly for 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
Mint Infused Ginger Caipirinha
4 lime wedges
Pinch of fresh ginger
30ml Mint syrup
First, make the mint syrup. Mix 2 cups of water, 2 cups of sugar and 2 fresh mint bunches together, bring to the boil and cool.
To create the cocktail, muddle the ginger in a mixing glass. Add the lime wedges, mint syrup and cachaça to the mixing glass. Muddle ingredients together. Add ice. Shake for five to ten seconds. Pour the entire contents of the mixing glass into a rocks glass. Float ginger beer on top. Garnish with a lime wheel.
